MIT wants to make you an app inventor

App Inventor 1 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

At the end of last year Google cut off the last of its life support to their App Inventor. App Inventor was a way for anyone to be able to design and make an Android app, whether you knew code or not. Before they pulled the plug on it however, they made it available to anyone that might want to use it. MIT took the opportunity to pick it up, and has just released their version called, not so creatively named, MIT App Inventor.

MIT App Inventor is meant to be a what you see is what you get app maker. You use it right in your browser, and design the app using different blocks that specify the apps behavior.  All you need to get started is your Google account.

I plan on playing with it when I have some free time. I don’t know what kind of app I will build, but maybe you will be seeing it in a future NBT article. If you use the App Inventor to create an app, I’d love to hear about it. I hope that this gets more young minds interested in developing Android apps so that the Android Market…er… Google Play can get some more great apps.
