BlackBerry Jam is one of RIM's major developer conferences. This year's will be held in Orlando, Florida, on May 1st through 3rd. It was fairly obvious that the BlackBerry maker would be showing off the BlackBerry 10 operating system there, but now we know that devs will be getting their hands on some prototype hardware, as well.
During the conference, RIM will hand out as many as 2,000 devices to developers so they can get used to the operating system and develop applications for it. Obviously RIM is trying to push the newest iteration of the mobile operating system, as the company has been struggling lately against the fierce and more popular competition.
RIM’s VP of developer relations Alec Saunders detailed these plans today in an interview with Bloomberg. Saunders also mentioned that it's RIM's goal to make sure that every PlayBook app will be compatible with BB10. That's roughly an extra 10,000 apps that RIM can use as leverage to convince consumers to buy BlackBerrys instead of an iPhone or Android phone.
"This is a tool the developer can use to get a jumpstart to build applications that will be great on a BlackBerry 10 device in the future… My goal is that every single PlayBook app works on BB10.?
BlackBerry Jam is only a little over one month away. We'll see if BB10 is truly that great when developers get a chance to play with it then.
