Google selling unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus for $399

Google_gnex

When the original Nexus – the Nexus One – was introduced, Google itself sold it through its developer website. When the Nexus S came out, it was available on contract from AT&T and Sprint, so Google saw no need to continue its own venue for sales.

But now, Google's back in the hardware game and has started its device sales once again, starting with an unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus. The search giant is selling the device for just $399, a price that includes not only the phone but also two-day shipping.

Since the Nexus line has always been "Pure Google," I expect these to sell rather well. Any unlocked device is a good deal at $399, but considering that the Galaxy Nexus is one of the best Android devices in existence right now, there's probably not a better deal for any phone at the moment.

Needless to say, I'm very tempted. I desperately need to get off of the iPhone; four Benjamins seems like a small price to pay to get out of the now-rotting walled garden.
