HTC and Sprint officially announce the new HTC EVO 4G LTE

Evo-4g-lte-eventAt 5:30 p.m. this evening in New York City, HTC and Sprint jointly announced the brand new HTC EVO 4G LTE, which Sprint CEO Danne Hesse called the new "gold standard" for a rich multimedia experience. Just as the original EVO 4G was the America's first 4G phone, and the EVO 3D was the first glasses-free 3D-capable phone, the new EVO will also have several firsts:

Sprint made clear at today's event that it is committed to bringing HD voice to all of its customers across the country. HD voice is a combination of dual-mics, encoders, decoders, and Network Vision technology that will provide for less muffled calls and crystal-clear voice quality. The dual mics will also help regular calls be clearer with less background noise, even if you're not using HD voice.

Additionally, the red band on the back of the phone that we saw earlier today is in fact HTC's new signature, and is what differentiates this phone as an EVO as opposed to the rest of HTC's One lineup. The new EVO 4G LTE will be glossy on top and have soft-touch feel below.

Furthermore, several other rumors were confirmed at today's press event:

HTC and Sprint promise the latest EVO to be "faster, cleaner, and more intuitive than ever before" with a particular focus on an "amazing camera and an awesome sound experience." It will be available sometime in the second quarter for $199.99 with a new two-year contract. Presales will begin on May 7.
