HTC EVO Design 4G updated to 2.12.651.89 (no, it’s not ICS)

Htc-evo-design-4g

An OTA update is currently rolling out for the HTC EVO Design 4G, bumping the software version number up to 2.12.651.89. While this isn't that fabled Ice Cream Sandwich update that we're all still waiting for, it still claims to provide some mysterious "security update."

We already know that Carrier IQ was removed in a previous OTA update earlier this year, so it's not clear what's being changed in this version. Regardless, since it doesn't look like the EVO 3D or EVO View are getting similar updates, it must be something that affects only the EVO Design.

To check and see if the update is available for you, just hit Menu > Settings > System updates > HTC software update. If you're rooted, it's probably best to wait for a rooted version of this update to be released by a developer, unless you know what you're doing.

Be sure to let us know if you notice any changes after applying this update!
