Price of Total Equipment Protection going up for HTC EVO 4G LTE

Tep-lte-devices

This is one of the reasons I don't believe in phone insurance and will never buy it myself: starting on June 17, Total Equipment Protection will be going up to $11/month, along with deductible amounts as high as $200. If you currently have total equipment protection on your original HTC EVO 4G, EVO 3D, or EVO Design 4G, don't worry: the price of TEP for you will remain the same at $8/month, along with your current $100 deductible. This will only affect devices released after June 17 with a suggested retail price of $549.99 or higher, along with any LTE devices at that price point that are released before then.

Do the math: over the life of a two-year contract, you'll spend $264 on this service. Say you have to replace your EVO 4G LTE twice during those two years because you're just that clumsy: you will have spent $664 total, or $332 per device. If you only replace your EVO once, you'll spend $464 on that one replacement. If you never replace your device, you will have flushed $264 down the toilet.

Instead, why not buy a used EVO on Craigslist or Ebay, probably for much less? I know lots of people swear by TEP, but I don't think they'll ever be able to convince me.
