RAZR, RAZR MAXX, and Rezound likely to get Android 4.0 in May

Verizon-maxx-update-timeline

When I reviewed the RAZR MAXX, my biggest complaint about the otherwise very good device was the sub par software. Instead of the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the device was running the same old MotoBlurred Gingerbread with only the promise of an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. A soak test leaked earlier this month which could work for daring users, but now it looks like the official update might finally be on the way.

An official-looking Verizon software update sheet has been leaked by someone claiming to be a Verizon employee, and it appears that both the RAZR and RAZR MAXX will finally be getting their updates on May 21-23. The HTC Rezound will actually get it on the ninth, but all of the updates are currently still in testing.

While it's not quite as soon as some rumors said it would be, it is still nice to know that the update is finally coming. Ice Cream Sandwich is a pretty big change, and even with MotoBlur it will likely be like getting a new phone for many users. In fact, I'm almost tempted enough to try out the MAXX at the Verizon store again once it finally gets the update, just to see how much better it is.
