Three major Android apps get some big updates

App-updates

Three major Android apps just got some pretty big updates that add some great functionality: Twitter, Skype, and Quickoffice. Here's what you should know as you accept these updates on your HTC EVO.

Twitter: Twitter's latest app now finally offers push notifications for when your own tweets are retweeted or favorited, as well as when you get new followers. The UI also got a minor update, with different icons at the top of the app, as well as a completely revamped Discover tab that now displays who your connections follow, updates to their lists, and which tweets they retweet and favorite. There's also support for more languages, spelling suggestions, related searches in search results, and username autocomplete while searching.

Skype: The latest Skype update promises to fix slow start-up times and video rotation issues for more devices (perhaps someone with an original EVO 4G can confirm this, as I know it was an issue in the past). It also completely revamps the instant messaging component.

Quickoffice: Quickoffice finally has spell check; it's the only major Android word processor to offer this (Docs 2 Go and Office Suite Pro both still lack this feature). You can also now view charts in Word docs, edit line spacing, and create tables. If you're working with PDFs, you can now view and add comments, insert shapes, and select and highlight text. There are also some improvements to Quickoffice presentations and spreadsheets.
