HTC EVO V 4G now available for pre-order from Radio Shack

Image fro SmartKeitai.com, story is notThe HTC EVO V 4G, a no-contract Virgin Mobile version of Sprint's EVO 3D, is now available for pre-order at Radio Shack for $299.99 with an expected release date of May 31.

The EVO V 4G will ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and HTC Sense 3.6. The 4G portion is Sprint/Virgin Mobile's WiMax 4G (not LTE 4G), so coverage is pretty slim and it's an already dead technology. It should be noted that the companies have committed to maintaining WiMax 4G where it is presently available so if you're in an area with WiMax, you'll be set. If not, you're never going to see it.

The Sprint and Virgin Mobile versions of the phone appear to differ only in radio firmware, so most of the custom ROMs that the Sprint EVO 3D crowd is running should be able to be ported without too much hassle in the same way the leaked Virgin Mobile ROMs for ICS/Sense 3.6 were ported to Sprint.

Having owned the Sprint counterpart for eight months now, I can report it's the second most fun phone I've ever owned, surpassed only by the original HTC EVO 4G.
