Final Fantasy III was originally a 2D game when it came out, but it got a massive upgrade to 3D with its release on the original Nintendo DS. That new version of the game made it to iOS in 2011, and now it’s finally Android’s turn.
The Android version apparently has “new and improved 3D visuals and story sequences only for Android,” which I suspect is marketing talk for “we changed it a bit to make it special.” Don’t get me wrong though, Final Fantasy III is a great game, and a huge release for Android gaming.
iPhone version launch trailer. Same thing, different OS.
That being said, Square Enix doesn’t share e.g. Rockstar’s opinion on what you should charge for old full release games gone mobile. $16 is the price you have to pay, and that’s perhaps even more optimistic on Android than it is on iOS, since it’s pretty much a fact that Android users dislike paying for apps more so than iOS users.
