Back in the beginning of May, HTC released the kernel source code for every single HTC One X device, except for AT&T’s version here in the US. Then, earlier this month, HTC released the kernel source for the HTC One S on T-Mobile and the HTC EVO 4G LTE on Sprint, leaving AT&T as the only US-based carrier that carried an HTC flagship phone and still hadn’t released the source code.
Well, all that changes today, as HTC has finally published the source code over on its developer site, HTCdev. What this means is that a whole new world of possibilities has opened up for custom ROM developers, allowing them to bring even more awesome new features to their ROMs, in addition to simply making existing custom ROMs more stable.
With Jelly Bean on the horizon for many devices, and the kernel code available for all of HTC’s major devices here in the US, it’s certainly an exciting time to be a developer. Only time will tell what kinds of ROMs are made available.
