Apple released OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) back in July. When it was released, the low price and high availability made it an instant upgrade among many Mac users – even with its bugs.
Today, Apple promises to squash them by releasing 10.8.1. The size of the update is incredibly small: my MacBook Pro’s was just under 8MB, but Apple lists the update as coming in at an also-small 24.2MB. Apple also lists the fixes that are included in this update, which are right here:
“This update includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac, including fixes that:
– Resolve an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit
– Improve compatibility when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange server in Mail
– Address an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display
– Resolve an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent
– Address an issue that could cause the system to become unresponsive when using Pinyin input
– Resolve an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names
– Address a issue that may prevent Safari from launching when using a Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) file
– Improve 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials.”
Unfortunately, there’s nothing in that list about any battery fixes; I’ve even downloaded and installed the update and my battery is still draining as fast as it did before the update. It’s really difficult to use a portable Mac on the go if it can’t make it more than a few hours, so hopefully Apple decides to help out its customers and fix the battery issue soon.
To download the update, head to your Apple Menu and click ‘Software Update…’
