Sega drops prices of Sonic games to more appealing levels

I’ve said before that I love the classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, and I think that modern day iterations of these classics are just as fun – and sometimes even more so. Still, when Sonic 4 Episode II was released several months ago for $6.99, I didn’t buy it. I really wanted to – it seemed amazingly fun from what I could tell – but I just couldn’t justify spending seven bucks on an Android game that I’d probably beat in a few hours; it just didn’t make good fiscal sense to me.

But now, Sega has dropped the prices for several Sonic games to much more reasonable levels, and it’s making me think twice about my initial decision. Sonic 4 Episode II (both the regular and Tegra 3 versions) is now only $4.99. Additionally, Sonic CD, which is a copy of an older Sonic game and therefore doesn’t have great graphics, is now down to $2.99, from a former $4.99.

I know that the difference between $4.99 and $6.99 (and the difference between $2.99 and $4.99) is only two bucks. But for whatever reason, I’m much more inclined to purchase the game at that price point. Even though it doesn’t make much logical sense, perhaps my psychological price barrier rests at $5, and I just don’t want to pay more than that.

Whatever the reason, this is a great price for a game that’s gotten tons of great reviews. (The same can also be said for Sonic CD, even though I actually already purchased that months ago.) And if you’re lucky enough to have a Tegra 3 device like the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime or the Transformer Pad Infinity, then you’ll benefit from an even more amazing graphical experience that rivals desktop versions of the game.

There’s no indication if these are temporary sale prices or permanent price drops, so it’s probably wise not to wait too long if you’re considering purchasing any of these. Download links are below – and if you decide to try these out, be sure to let me know if you think your purchase was worth it!
