LG posts impressive hands on video with Optimus G, a possible Nexus contender

LG just recently made their Optimus G smartphone official, and I have to admit that it looks quite impressive. In addition to a sturdy and striking industrial design, the device packs in a powerful S4 processor, HD display, 13MP camera, 2,100mAh battery, and NFC. It is so good, in fact, that many think it will be the base platform for the next Google Nexus device, or even one of the devices in a lineup of Nexus branded smartphones.

Either way, the Optimus G is certainly worth keeping a watch on, which is why I found a recently posted hands on video from LG quite interesting. In the six minute demonstration, one of LG’s Engineers takes the Optimus G for a spin, demonstrating some impressive features. Most notable are the 7310 score in Quadrant, custom video/multitasking interface, new LG custom software with a variety of features, wireless screen mirroring and playback, impressive camera features, and homescreen gestures.

The more I hear about the Optimus G, the more excited I am about it. Even if it doesn’t end up being a Nexus device, it already looks extremely impressive on its own. Does LG finally have their savior phone that can make them popular again? Based on the information we have so far, I would say so. Now, it just remains to be seen when the device will be released in the US, and how many (if any) variations there might be.
