Quick ROM review – CIUI Gamma V3 for the HTC EVO 4G

2012 09 06 15.45.08 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag hereCIUI Gamma V3 for the HTC EVO 4G is a fully-functioning MIUI-themed CyanogenMod-based ROM where everything just works – and it works fast. (We first covered CIUI nine months ago, when it first hit the scene.)

While the OS it is based on is not exactly cutting edge any more, the ROM itself is a solid, fully-functioning piece of work that seems to have prided itself on not working with 4G/WiMAX.

While I’m not particularly a fan of any flavors of MIUI, I’ve got to say that in the time I’ve played with CIUI, I’ve been a fan. It’s snappy and feels responsive.

On install, I managed to bork it, most likely due to me not having an internet connection and having a phone that is out of service, but a reboot fixed it.

I’m a bit confused about what team claims this ROM now – Team D.I.R.T. has banners in the XDA development thread, the download links go to a Team XTC account, and Team Nocturnal’s CIUI thread also lists it as XTC. Whatever the team, SinisterTensai was the author.

It seems we rarely cover ROMs these days that make it past betas, as work gets abandoned to chase after a new operating system base. It’s nice to see that this reached gamma. The only sad thing about this is no ability to install Chrome, as the base OS is a tad too dated, which for me ends up being as bad as not having 4G.
