Sony Tablet P now available for $199

tablet p 200 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

It’s been about eight months since the dual-screened Sony Tablet P clamshell tablet was released in the US, and I’m still the only person I know in real life who has one. Whether it’s the unorthodox form factor, oversized bezel, wide space between the 5.5-inch screens, lack of US carrier support (AT&T never released the ICS update, even though other regions got it back in May), or high release price ($399 with contract, $549 without), the device simply never caught on.

In an effort to either turn the tides or get rid of unwanted inventory, Sony dropped the original off-contract price of the HSPA+ tablet to $349 back in June. The $200 reduction must not have made much of a difference in sales, though, because the company has just slashed the price to $199.97, making it a whole two pennies cheaper than the Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD 7, and Nook HD.

Whether the new price helps Sony unload its remaining Tablet Ps remains to be seen, but we’ve already got a place for you to feel less alone if you decide to pick one up.
