Angry Birds Star Wars becomes the first game to simultaneously launch on all major platforms

“This will be a day long remembered,” as Darth Vader once said. Angry Birds Star Wars, which Rovio and Lucasfilm announced last month, has become the first game to be simultaneously released on Windows Phone 8, Windows 8, PC, Android, Amazon, iOS, and Mac. In other words, you can pick it up on every major gaming device except video game consoles and dedicated gaming handheld devices.

Angry Birds Star Wars mashes up the classic Angry Birds gameplay with the iconic Star Wars characters and environments to create a surprisingly good game. It combines the best aspects of the Angry Birds franchise and offers the most variety, serving up levels both on the ground and in space. The Star Wars elements aren’t just a skin, either. Luke Skywalker is equipped with a lightsaber which can be used to deflect blaster bolts (yes, the pigs will now shoot at you), Han Solo has a blaster of his own, and Obi-Wan can use the Force to destroy an area of attack. As a result, the game is both familiar and refreshingly different.

Angry Birds Star Wars can be downloaded today on Windows Phone 8, the Windows Store on Windows 8, PC through the Angry Birds Online Shop and Intel’s AppUp, Google Play, the Amazon Appstore for Android, the Apple App Store, and the Mac App Store. The game is currently exclusive to Nokia Lumia devices running Windows Phone 8, but it will eventually be made available on Windows Phone 7.x as well. The Xbox LIVE-enabled versions of the game also include achievements and leaderboards.

Please note that, as of this writing, Angry Birds Star Wars hasn’t yet appeared in the Windows Store. But you can rest assured that it is coming today. We’ll update this post with the link as soon as it goes live. The game is now available on the Windows Store as well.
