AnthraX EVO 4G LTE Alpha 03-BT kernel for the HTC EVO 4G LTE released

kernel - for some reason we don't have an alt tag hereIf you don’t have an account at AnthraX-kernels.us, and you have a rooted HTC EVO 4G LTE, you might want to head on over there and sign up to try this kernel out. I’ve been running it for a day now, and it’s a really solid offering.

It has pretty much everything a kernel could ask for, short of an S-ON friendly installer. Features include 96KHz audio, MPDecision, USB OTG support, and a long laundry list of others that seem to change from day to day. One of my current favorites is the Sweep2Wake mod in the kernel, which allows you to turn your screen on and off without using the power button.

I didn’t notice any great difference in the Quadrant and AnTuTu scores at 1.7GHz between Chad’s new kernel and the MeanROM default kernel but the new AnthraX has a consistently higher frame rate, so there’s a trade-off somewhere in there that I don’t know what it is.

One of the most interesting things about this kernel is that it seems to be running cooler on my phone when I’m playing any games. One of the comments in the kernel thread mentioned something similar, and it’s noticeable . Also, comments indicate that the Bluetooth audio is significantly improved on this kernel; however, not having any Bluetooth to test it on, I can’t comment.

The kernel seems solid. At a day in, however, I can’t tell much difference in the battery life, although with the lowered temperature while playing graphics-intensive programs, I’d assume you’d be losing less energy right off the bat. Your mileage will of course vary. I haven’t felt I’ve even pushed the kernel yet, but as I’m trying to get a handle on battery life, I’m not trying today.

As with all AnthraX offerings, you will need an account on Anthrax-US to download. This is done to adhere to GPL requirements and keep the drama to a minimum, and also force you to get the right version as opposed to something that’s sitting on a server with nothing but a link.

If you’re S-ON, make absolutely sure you know what you’re doing before attempting to flash this kernel. We can hope for an S-ON friendly installer sometime later on, but for now work is being done on the kernel and not the installation methods.

Give it a try and let us know what you think!
