PSA: Not all sleeves for the 11-inch MacBook Air are compatible with the 11-inch Samsung Chromebook

ColcaSac Sleeve - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

Well, this is awkward. Recently given the chance to review any accessory I wanted from GearZap.com, I decided to show my Samsung Chromebook some love. I’ve already got enough cases, cradles, and chargers for my phone and tablet, but for whatever reason, my Chromebook wasn’t getting any attention in the accessory arena.

So I sat down and looked at some MacBook Air cases. Since GearZap didn’t have anything specifically for the Chromebook, I thought I might find something here. After all, I’ve read in a ton of forums about people buying MacBook cases for the Chromebook. Everyone always seems to comment about how similar the Samsung Chromebook looks to the MacBook Air. Their screens are about the same size. Everything should be fine, right?

Nope.

I decided to order this ColcaSac Zagora MacBook Air sleeve. When it finally arrived, I was so excited to try it out – only to find my darn Chromebook won’t fit inside. Granted, this isn’t the fault of the manufacturer or of GearZap. In retrospect, this was a very stupid mistake. I know the MacBook Air is slightly smaller than the Chromebook, and I ignored the review on GearZap’s website that said it was a tight fit for the MacBook Air. So, I only have myself to blame here.

Indeed, GearZap impressed me with how fast the shipping was (it only took one weekend to arrive, even though it was coming all the way from the UK to Illinois). And the quality of this Zagora case is spectacular.  It is is made with black, heavy duty natural hemp – as hipsters and environmentalists know, hemp grows quickly and is a fantastic renewable source.

It’s also got a very soft yet thick inner lining, which is sure to keep whatever you place inside protected. The Velcro flap seems to be of decent quality, and there’s even a handy front pocket that you can use to keep your charger or other accessories. I can’t find anything wrong with the stitching or overall quality.

All in all, it’s a great sleeve that I very badly wish was just slightly bigger – half an inch! – so I could use it with my Chromebook. As it stands now, I feel really dumb, but to those MacBook Air users out there, I’d heartily recommend this sleeve in a heartbeat. To those of you with a Chromebook, however, don’t make the same mistake I did.
