Google gives HTC One owners 25-50GB of free Google Drive space

google-drive-logoWhile HTC has previously partnered with Dropbox to give its customers free cloud storage, it looks like the Taiwanese hardware manufacturer has decided to team up with Google going forward. HTC One owners are eligible for an additional 25GB of free Drive storage, in addition to the 15GB free that comes standard with all Google accounts, for a total of 40GB of free storage. HTC One max owners get even more: 50GB of free storage, for a combined total of 65GB.

This bonus storage will be good for two years, which is conveniently the entire length of a full upgrade cycle on most US carriers. However, there are a few caveats to keep in mind:

  • The bonus storage can only be redeemed once per account and per device, so don’t even think about redeeming this offer using multiple phones.
  • The Developer Edition HTC One is not included – that’s because you cannot redeem the offer on a device with an unlocked bootloader.
  • The storage has to be redeemed by January 1, 2016 – so in case you’ve got other bonus storage (from a Chromebook, for example) and you want to make your free storage last as long as possible, you might be able to time this just right and redeem it only after your other bonus storage expires.
