Amazon and Best Buy now selling brand new Acer Chromebook for $199

Acer ChromebookC7-2848Without any fanfare or even any official announcement, Acer has released a new Chromebook today. The Acer Chromebook C720-2848 is practically identical to the $250 Acer Chromebook released last month, except that it only has 2GB of RAM, compared to 4GB, and it’s $50 cheaper. Also of note is that this Chromebook has Intel’s relatively new Celeron Haswell processor clocked at 1.4Ghz for much better battery battery life (8.5 hours).

The C720-2828 also has a 16GB SSD, 11.6-inch display with 1366 x 768 resolution, a 0.75-inch thick profile weighing 2.76 pounds, HDMI out, USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, and the standard 100GB of free Google Drive storage.

In other words, unless you need that extra 2GB of RAM from October’s model for very heavy web browsing, this model should perform more than adequately for most people. I’m happy to see another Chromebook option on the market, and can’t wait for even more to arrive.

The Acer Chromebook C720-2828 is on sale right now from Best Buy and Amazon.
