KitKat (KRT16S) is now rolling out OTA to the HTC One Google Play Edition
Just days after finally arriving for all current Nexus devices, the HTC One Google Play Edition is also getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update. Coming in at 320MB, it’s a staggered roll out, meaning some people will get the update today and some people will have to wait. And like the Nexus 4 and both Nexus 7s, the update does not come with the Google Experience launcher, so users will be stuck with the older stock AOSP launcher unless they want to do some sideloading.
Unlike Nexus devices, if the OTA update doesn’t show up right away for you, it is possible to sideload it from the stock recovery. Just download the zip directly from Google and save to your local storage, and then use the “Update from phone storage” option in the stock recovery.
For developers, the kernel source and framework files are also available for download from HTCdev, as well. And while the update isn’t available quite yet for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, Samsung has still followed HTC’s lead and released the kernel source files.
Enjoy KitKat!
