Since the Nexus 5 was only a rumor, I had been going back and forth about whether or not I wanted to upgrade from the Nexus 4. On its release day, October 31, I did finally decide to go ahead and bite the bullet; however, I wanted to wait and see if Amazon would sell the phone unlocked at the same price Google was. After it was revealed that Amazon would sell it as a Sprint device at a $100 markup, I ordered it through the Play Store – it was last Friday night when I finally placed the order.
The expected shipping date I was given for the 32GB white Nexus 5 was November 22, two full weeks after the order was placed. However, last night, I got an email from Google saying it has already shipped – and it’s expected to arrive tomorrow. To sweeten things even more, I didn’t pay for two-day shipping, but it looks like I’m getting it anyway.
This was a very unexpected and pleasant surprise, and it turns out I might actually get to play with Android 4.4 KitKat sooner than I thought I would.
The moral of this story? Go ahead and order the Nexus 5. Don’t worry about the longer estimated shipping times – it looks like Google is under-promising and over-delivering. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on the precise color and storage combo you select, but I’m very pleased.
