Chromecast receives OTA update to build 14651

Chromecast3

Google’s Chromecast media streaming dongle is currently receiving an OTA update to build 14651. Along with a few unnamed bug fixes, this update will also bring a “refreshed homescreen.” Dramatic speed optimizations are also expected with this update, although – since no one (that I know, at least) has gotten the update yet – it’s hard to tell how dramatic the optimizations are, and what the new homescreen will look like.

Since the Chromecast doesn’t include any way to check for updates manually, you will simply have to wait for the download to arrive to your unit on its own.

You can, however, check your current build number by opening the Chromecast app on your Android phone or tablet, tapping on upper left-hand corner icon and selecting Devices. Simply pick whichever Chromecast device you’d like to check that appears on your list, wait for it to connect if it hasn’t already, and then navigate to Chromecast Settings > Device Info. Under the name, WiFi settings, time zone, SHARE DATA, IP address, and MAC Address, the build number will appear.
