The 2013 LTE Google Nexus 7 by ASUS is currently receiving an OTA update to build KVT49L; the Android version remains at 4.4.2. The software will enable “full compatibility with Verizon’s 4G LTE network,” even though many users have already been using the Nexus 7 on Verizon without any issues.
In any case, this particular update is what Verizon said it needed before it would start officially allowing Nexus 7 activations on its network. The Nexus 7 can now be used on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile – one of the first tablets with enough LTE bands to claim this type of carrier compatibility.
The update comes in at exactly 37MB, and includes a new build of the software radio (DEB-H00_2.42.0_1024). Otherwise, there aren’t any other significant changes. It also appears that international and WiFi-only versions of the tablet won’t be getting this update.
Verizon is now selling the Nexus 7 for $250 with a two-year contract.
