Chrome OS tip: Launch pinned apps with keyboard shortcut [Video]

Here’s a quick, simple Chrome OS tip to help you launch your pinned apps quicker – without having to use a mouse. Did you know that the first eight apps along with the last app you have pinned to the bottom of your screen on your Chrome OS device can be launched with just two button presses?

Take a look at the bottom of the screen on my Chromebook Pixel. These are the apps that I have currently pinned there:

Each one of these apps represents a number – the Chrome browser is number 1, Gmail is 2, etc. The last app – in this case, the Files app – is always number 9.

To launch any of these apps using a keyboard shortcut, just press alt and the number at the same time. So, alt1 would launch Chrome. Even though the Files app is technically number 10, since it is the last app I have pinned, it is automatically assigned number 9. So, alt + 9 will open the Files app.

Sometimes, it’s the simple things in life.

Thanks, Chuck!
