The HTC One M8 on Sprint is currently receiving an OTA update to 1.54.651.8. The update weighs in at a hefty 114.76MB, and Sprint’s official changelog only lists “Network acquisition enhancements.”
However, HTC specifies that the update includes general stability and improvements and call performance improvements, as well.
Many users have also noticed that the update includes the Extreme Power Saving mode that was available on all of the other carrier versions of the One M8, but left out of Sprint’s version for some reason. Interestingly, this feature appears on no changelog anywhere.
Extreme Power Saving mode provides you with a new home screen that only gives you access to the dialer, text messages, email, calendar, and calculator. It turns off sync and all notifications – so while it’s more of an “emergency” mode than anything else, HTC says that you can get up to 15 extra hours of use with only 5% of your battery – not bad.
Of course, if you’re rooted or you want to gain S-OFF and haven’t yet, don’t accept this update. Instead, wait for a developer to mess around with it first.[Sprint via Android Central]
