The Kingston DataTraveler microDuo is a USB OTG device intended for data transfer and simple storage between a computer and an Android device, or two micro USB devices, or any mixture of the two.
The DataTraveler microDuo is about the size of a nickel and comes with a lanyard, so you can attach it to your key chain, purse, etc. It’s small enough that it can get lost pretty easily.
The thing is extremely useful if you need to offload large amounts of data but don’t have a computer or high speed internet available – say you’re at a wedding taking tons of video and pictures and you top out your device storage before you’re done, the DataTraveler microDuo has you covered.
Simply pop the USB stick into any Android device that supports USB OTG (which is most devices these days), open up a file manager, and move files from your overused internal storage out to the 32GB of available storage you can offload later.
When you get home, pop the standard USB side into a computer and offload your data. You’re done.
In my tests, the device topped out at about 12MB per second write rate sustained from a computer and a 22MB sustained read, although your speeds may vary depending on USB port, time of day, or prevailing wind direction.
The Kingston 32GB DataTraveler microDuo is backed by Kingston’s five year warranty, so if the device fails due to media problems, you’re set with a replacement. If it fails due to drowning it in the washing machine because you forgot it was in your pocket, probably not so much.
