PhilZ Touch recovery for the HTC One M8 released

PhilZ Touch recovery screen

The amazing PhilZ Touch Recovery has been released for several HTC One M8 variants, including Sprint, as of today.

PhilZ Touch is based on ClockworkMOD recovery but offers significant enhancements since the last time I used CWM, which admittedly has been quite a while.

Coming from a TWRP background, one of the greatest things is that it adds the ability to stop making the backup by pressing and holding the on-screen back button. I can’t count how many times I’ve been making a nandroid backup, there’s been a car crash, and I needed to call the police (OK, I can – it was one).

As far as I can tell, the Sprint version of PhilZ touch works as it’s supposed to with the possible exception that I could not seem to make a screenshot. This may be operator error though.

PhilZ Touch will work with either TWRP or CWM format backups, so regardless of what recovery is your preference PhilZ should work with restoring and creating the backups of either.

The recovery also does not appear to suffer the random failures of the unofficial TWRP that was ported, nor the issues of the now official release from TWRP for Sprint (30 minutes, locked up making a backup for me).

PhilZ Touch is free, works, and is amazing. It also works for our HTC EVO 4G LTE users.
