Seidio LEDGER Flip Case + Kickstand for the HTC One M8 review
One of the things longtime users of the EVO line of phones miss with the HTC One series has been the lack of a kickstand in a phone that would obviously benefit from one. Unfortunately, HTC didn’t choose to include a kickstand in its new HTC One M8 line of phones, but Seidio has come to the rescue with the LEDGER Flip Case + Kickstand.
I’ll preface the review with the mention that I am not much of a fan of flip cases, although I am a fan of kickstands, so hopefully that will balance things out.
LEDGER Flip Case + Kickstand features
- Thin case, protects without a lot of bulk
- Textured front, smooth back allows you to know which way you’re pulling the phone out of your pocket
- Side magnet snaps case closed, keeps it closed
- ID/credit card pouch in case for nights when you only want to carry phone, ID, and credit card
- Camera raised slightly by case, prevents most beer lens scenarios
- Kickstand for media viewing
The LEDGER fit
I’m a Seidio fanboy, but I’m not particularly happy with the way this case fits together with itself. It cradles the phone snugly, so there’s nothing to worry about there in terms of protection, but the lid of the thing extends a centimeter or so over and below the ends of the phone. It makes it easy to catch things on.
The magnetic latch on the side similarly sticks out just a little too far for my liking. The whole thing seems to be just in the pants-pocket grabbing range, although I will confess this has not happened in my use of the case. I’m wearing fairly large-pocketed jeans today though.
Protection
The case seems to have more than adequate back protection, and the front seems reinforced by some sort of hard backing. That, combined with whatever you have in the pocket of the case, is going to offer some pretty decent protection for most falls, although if you angled it perfectly you still might be able to have your phone contact with a surface. Chances of that are pretty slim.
One scenario that I can see the case not providing any help is if the lid was completely open and the phone fell face first on the ground. The lip of the case does come up over the metal corners of the HTC One M8, although it does not appear to go past the glass which is slightly raised.
Overall
Nice case, not quite my style, can only fit one or two cards in the lid, love the kickstand. Acceptable.
