Fresh on the heels of its older sibling, the T-Mobile variant of the 2014 HTC One M8 is also getting an OTA update, this time to version 1.57.531.7, which includes one very important feature that HTC touted during the launch of the device: Extreme Power Savings.

This mode basically turns off all but the phone’s most essential functions when the battery gets low, cutting off all background data usage and only allowing phone calls, texts, and email to go through. It is so extreme (hence the name) that HTC says users can get hours of up time from only a 5% charge.

The OTA update started rolling out on Saturday, so many of you have had some time to play around with it. Please leave a comment to let us know how it’s working out for you, or – even worse – if HTC accidentally introduced some bugs with the update. (We all know that HTC doesn’t exactly have the best track record in this regard.)

Of course, if you’re rooted, hold off until your specific ROM developer has incorporated these changes in your ROM.
