HTC to host event in New York on August 19, but no one knows what it’s about

HTC LogoHTC just announced that it will host a press event in New York City on August 19. We don’t know anything else about the event, so let’s start speculating.

  • We’ve seen lots of rumors about a Nexus 8 or Nexus 9 tablet manufactured by HTC, which might even replace both the current Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Early summer has traditionally been the time when HTC has announced new Nexus 7 tablets, and since nothing was announced this year, we can expect this probably at any time.
  • What about the HTC Android Wear smartwatch that was leaked earlier this month? We haven’t heard much about that yet, and given the pressure from LG and Motorola, HTC probably wants to get this to market as soon as possible.
  • Some rumors indicate that HTC might be on the verge of releasing the HTC One M8 hardware running Windows Phone software. This unholy hybrid has been rumored to hit Verizon on August 21, so the timing of this event would make sense.

What else could this be about? Do you have any ideas yourself? Let us know in the comments below!
