Scanbot for iOS and Android free for a limited time

ScanbotScanbot is an application that turns your phone into a high quality document scanner. Android users, there’s no need to rush, this app is free for you; however, iOS users may want to go ahead and grab this because Scanbot is free in the App Store for 48 hours.

The regular price is $1.99, and even if it’s not the pro version it’s well worth it for what it does.

The timeframe as given to me is August 21, 9:00 a.m. CET (Central European Time) for 48 hours. If I’ve done my math right, that means the freebies start for iOS users at 3am EST on the 21st and run until the morning of the 23rd. If I’ve further done the math right, this article (written in the Central Time zone) will post at the correct hour on a server in the Pacific Standard Time zone, and all will be lovely. That, or you’re seeing it yesterday.

If you’re seeing this and it’s not currently free on the App Store, either I did the math wrong or the PR agency telling me this is spreading lies… lies I tell you.

Scanbot is more than just an app that takes a picture and saves it, though. It has paper edge detection, an onscreen box/prompter that tells you when you’re at a bad angle or need to move closer, knows when you’ve got a good image available, can combine into a multi-page scan, and saves your scan as a PDF so you don’t have to deal with any weird multi-page software (I’m looking at you multipage tiff viewers!).

Scanbot makin' copies... the scanninator... scanorama...scannnnnWhile Scanbot is free for a limited time (or always for Android), the underlying reason for the free promotion is most likely to get you hooked so you’ll want Scanbot Pro, which has 60 language OCR, allows you to search through the content of your scans, cut and paste text from a document you’ve scanned, edit documents, smart file naming, themes, and probably more.

The Pro Pack is available for $4.99 on Android, and I’m assuming the same on iOS, but as the app isn’t free yet I don’t have it on any of my iDevices.

For the mobile business pro, Scanbot can keep track of your receipts uploading them to the cloud the instant you scan them in case something happens to your phone.

It’s really useful, if you’ve got to keep receipts, or you just want a high-quality scanning application so you can easily copy off documents during your spy missions, Scanbot is the app for that.

Scanbot is available in the App Store free for the next 48 hours (regularly $1.99,) and Google Play (regularly free).
