4.4.4 Sense 6 Eye Experience for root Sprint M8s released

four four fourIf you’re tired of waiting for Android 4.4.4 and the Eye Experience on the HTC One M8 and you’re rooted, your wait is mostly over. A Chinese/Global version of the software has been released that works on Sprint devices (there are probably other carriers, this is just what I check.)

The download comes in at 1.1 gigabytes, and you have to poke around a Chinese website, and enter a password  in order to download it, so it’s got a few more hurdles than your average ROM we cover. While the language is global, there are some security software applications that are not standard and are written in another language.

I’m reading that LTE doesn’t work on the preview ROM… if you’re on Sprint this may be the norm for you and not a reason to stay away from the ROM though.

There are other developers in the HTC One M8 community working on developing a less global and more stock English versions, so you may want to wait a few days before playing with this, however if you’re so inclined here’s how to get it:

Click here. If it asks for a password, it’s “53lu”. Click the link that says m8.diypda.com. Press the download button. You’ll be presented with a white box and a blue box. As far as I can tell the blue box is some sort of file downloader, the white box is a direct download.

The connection is slow, so if you’ve got a virtual machine spooled up, take a snapshot, install the downloader, download the zip, move it elsewhere, and restore the machine state. I never trust downloaders personally, but if you can read a properly translated version of what you’re agreeing to, maybe you can skip the paranoia steps I take.

Or you can wait a day or two and it’ll be ported properly most likely.

Enjoy!
