Google Play Movies & TV now lets you preorder movies

GPlay_PreorderMovies_v02b

Google’s video streaming app, Google Play Movies & TV, just got an update to version 3.3, and along with that comes the ability to pre-order upcoming releases, making them available in your library the instant they come out, without having to wait.

Pre-orders are only good for purchasing movies, not renting them, so prices might be higher than some consumers are normally accustomed to, ranging usually between $12.99-$14.99, depending on the title and whether you want to own in in standard definition or HD. (For just a few extra bucks, who wouldn’t want something in HD?)

While it’s unclear whether or not many consumers will initially take advantage of the ability to pre-order movies, this at least further solidifies Google Play Movies & TV as a serious contender in the streaming arena, and it indicates that the studios are taking Google seriously, as well. For now, this feature is only available in the US, but it should spread to more countries soon.
