HTC One M8 Google Play Edition Lollipop multicarrier ROM available now
If you’re rooted and tired of waiting on HTC to get your Google Play Edition to your carrier, there’s some good news for you. There’s a multicarrier Android Lollipop version available for it looks like every carrier now.
The ROM is a minimally modified port of the 5.0 GPE ROM that was spotted in the wild a week or so back. It’s available in Sprint, Verizon, and GSM flavors on install, so there should be no issues on any carrier that the HTC One M8 is supported on, but your experience obviously may vary.
If you’re interested in trying out the 5.0 GPE port, you’ll need to be on Android 4.4.4 firmware before attempting to flash. If you’re on 4.4.3 or previous, you might want to consider RUUing or reverting to stock and taking an OTA if you’re not comfortable flashing your firmware manually.
After you’re on 4.4.4, reboot into recovery, flash the zip, and the Aroma installer will ask you what your greatest wish is. That or it’ll ask you what carrier you’re on, ask you whether you want to extract some 5.0 specific firmware (say yes in case you need it,) and reboot. Should be golden from there.
If you’re not, reboot into recovery again, flash that 5.0 firmware that was extracted, and try try again.
Should be noted that you’ll require S-OFF in order to flash the firmware most likely. So if you’re not there currently get S-OFF before that door slams shut (and is broken three months later).
It should be noted also that since this is a ROM and Firmware change, along with a potential change from Sense to GPE versions, this is a bit advanced and not for the weak of heart.
Thanks digitalhigh for both developing it and dropping us a note to know it was ready!
