PS4 Remote Play on many rooted Android devices

Playstation Remote Play Port

If you’re a gamer, chances are you’ve seen the Sony PS4 Remote Play commercial below and thought to yourself, “Why would I specifically purchase an Xperia phone to play PS4 games on a smaller screen in the outdoors?” Luckily a developer has come along and made the PS4 Remote Play work with many rooted non-Xperia Android devices.

There’s even a workaround to get a Dualshock controller working with it.

There’s no workaround for having to own a PS4 for it to work, though as the remote play is as far as I can tell is a ramped up RDP session with a controller.

The app requires 4.4+  and lists Lollipop functionality. It will require you to flash a file and jump through a couple of hoops to get everything working, but that’s the price you pay for staying away from Sony-controlled phones. Make sure you’ve got a good nandroid backup in place in case things go south.

This might be a useful little hack to help your teenager survive the holidays without starting, continuing, or beating you at drinking, or it might not work at all on your phone.

If you try it, let us know how it works for you and what you’re on and running. Although it lists it works for the M8 GPE edition, I’m PS4-less. If anyone wants to give me a PS4 in Nashville though, I’ll more than gladly test this thing out in detail!

Have fun!
