What we missed at CES: ASUS press conference

So many press events, so little time – especially when only two of us from Pocketables are at CES! In any case, the ASUS press conference was yet another event that I sorely wanted to attend, but just couldn’t squeeze into an already packed schedule.

And boy, did I miss something awesome: the ZenFone 2!

This is a new flagship smartphone for ASUS, and is the first phone in the world to have 4GB of dual-channel RAM. It also features a brushed metal body that is only 3.9mm thick on the edges, with rear-mounted power and volume buttons, making it somewhat of a hybrid Moto X/HTC One/LG G2. (In other words, it takes some of the most unique, useful design cues from each of these devices to deliver something brand new.)

It also features a 5.5-inch screen, 1080p IPS display, a 64-bit Intel processor, and a 3000mAh battery that uses proprietary fast-charge technology – in fact, ASUS says you can get 60% charge with just 39 minutes of charging. It comes with category 4 LTE, a dual SIM slot, and a 13MP f/2.0 rear camera.

While pricing on the top of the line model isn’t yet available, there is a low-end Zenfone 2 that starts at $199 for 2GB of RAM and a slightly slower processor – still not bad, all things considered. I’ll definitely be looking for this one of the show floor for some hands on time.
