Deal alert: T-Mobile is giving some customers unlimited data for free

If you’ve been a T-Mobile customer for a little while, but haven’t ever gotten the urge to try out truly unlimited data, you may want to watch out for a text message from T-Mobile offering just that.

Earlier today, my partner got a text stating: “Thanks for being a loyal customer! You are being upgraded to Unlimited 4G LTE date thru 2015, no extra cost!” A link was included that led to this page.

According to the offer page, his account will be upgraded to Unlimited 4G LTE data starting April 1, and it will remain through December 31, at no extra charge. No further action is required. Since we aren’t paying anything extra, this essentially makes the unlimited data free. After December 31 of this year, the plan will revert back to what it was before.

Unfortunately, unRadio is not included, and the tethering allowance will only match what data we had before (so, 3GB). Additionally, T-Mobile notes that with this upgrade, starter stash and Data Stash will go away because there’s no need for rollover data. We have until 3/17 to opt out.

Still, this is a great deal – and it’s awesome that T-Mobile is doing this without any prompting on our part. Of course, if you have been a customer for a while and feel like you deserve this, it never hurts to call T-Mobile’s Loyalty department to see if your account might qualify. If you do, good luck!
