For whatever reason, it seems like Amazon really has it out for the typical Android user. After several years of availability of Amazon Prime Instant Video on Apple devices like the iPhone and iPad, Android users were still left out in the cold. This remained the case until just a few months ago, when Amazon finally opened the service up to Android devices … but still, only phones.
This seems like an interesting approach for a retailer whose popular Kindle tablets run a modified version of Android, but who am I to judge?
In any case, Amazon has finally opened up the streaming video service to all Android users as of this week – including all current Android tablets. There are still some (silly) caveats, including:
- Users must have the Instant video app and the Amazon Appstore.
- It’s not available through Google Play – you have to download it through Amazon.
- It’s still not available on the Chromecast.
