Google updates its Messenger app with stickers, location sharing, and more
If you’re a fan of Google’s Messenger app for SMS and MMS messaging, you’ll want to make sure you’ve updated to the latest version through the Play Store. This latest update gives it several features that have been available for a while in Hangouts, including support for stickers and location sharing.
Location sharing and stickers are both available by pressing the “attachment” icon while typing your message – this is the same button you press to attach photos. Location sharing allows you to send a small snapshot of your current location on a map, along with a link to the location on Google Maps.
Stickers work just like they do on Facebook or Hangouts, except they are sent as MMS messages. Most of them are animated, and they’re pretty cute – except for the fact that there are only three sticker packs currently available. Hopefully, Google will unify Hangouts and Messenger sticker packs soon.
Some other features include quick scrolling within your conversations (useful for finding messages from weeks or months ago), along with a cool new animation that appears whenever sending a message to someone.
If Messenger isn’t your default SMS app, I’d recommend giving it a try – it certainly runs circles around Hangouts.
