PSA: T-Mobile’s new promotional plans do not qualify for any additional discounts
If you can’t wait to jump on T-Mobile’s new promotional family plan offer that includes Mobile Without Borders and 10GB of data per line, there is one additional consideration you should make: discounts do not apply to this plan. This means that if you are currently receiving a grandfathered employee discount, a refer-a-friend promotion, or a government or military discount, it will not be valid on this plan.
I confirmed this late yesterday with a personal contact I have at T-Mobile, although it shouldn’t come as too much of a shocker: T-Mobile has been trying to move away from discounts for a while now. The previous grandfathered promotional plan, which offered two lines of unlimited high speed data for $100 per month, or $50 per line, was also not eligible for any discounts. The 4-line family plan, that offered 10GB total for $100 per month, did continue to receive that discount, though.
All of T-Mobile’s new Simple Choice North America plans, which come with Mobile Without Borders, will continue to receive discounts, if you’re already getting discounts on your account. It just looks like going forward T-Mobile will not allow any more discounts on any promotional plans.
