Chrome downloads page gets a material redesign

In its never-ending quest to slap Material Design on practically all of its products, Google has recently redesigned the Chrome download page, accessible inside the browser at chrome://downloads/.

OMG! Chrome! first discovered this change, which must be enabled in the Chrome flags (chrome://flags/). The specific flag: “enable-md-downloads”

Following this redesign, downloaded files now appear as cards that can be dismissed by clicking the “x” in the upper right-hand corner. The “show in folder” link is also more prominent, and items are sorted more obviously by date.

Of course, even though Chrome’s Material Design makes things more visually appealing, it comes at a productivity cost: the number of downloads that can be displayed at once is now drastically reduced.

In any case, if you want to try it out yourself, just enable the flag – and if you can’t find the flag, try updating your version of Chrome to the beta or dev channels.
