AVANTEK BC-L6 Bluetooth 4.0 Hands-Free Car Kit review

The AVANTEK BC-L6 is a hands-free car kit that enables you to stream audio over Bluetooth to the aux-in port on your car. The receiver button also can be rotated to skip forward and back, and pressed to play/pause. It also has a built-in microphone for hands-free talking while driving.

AVANTEK BC-L6 Bluetooth 4.0 Hands-Free Car KitIt comes with a dual 1, 2.1amp car USB connector so you can power it, and your phone at the same time should you so desire.

First, let me say it works well. You can pair two devices if you want, the audio streaming sounds great, the button turning/pressing is intuitive, but man, even though it’s only got two, it’s a lot of wires dangling for a car.

If you’ve got a power outlet inside of a console in your car, chances are you can hide it away or place it discretely, but if you’re dealing with a dashboard power supply it’s going to look kind of meh.

But it works really well… I will stress that.

Having played with one of these that retransmitted on the FM band so your stereo picked it up, it feels like that may be more the way to go in terms of simple no-wires setup, although the sound coming from this was superior to the FM downgraded sound I’ve gotten in the past. I’m unsure what the solution here is other than getting a car stereo with Bluetooth built in.

Alsom as you’re already dealing with a couple of wires dangling, it might be a question of why not save thirty bucks and just plug the aux-in into the phone if you’re just using it for music. Eh, I don’t know.

The BC-L6 overall occupies a place of what I think was very neat technology a couple of years ago but that the function has been replicated and improved on, or at least could be by doing something like making the button a combo power converter or somesuch.

As it stands you need the button where you can touch it and it can hear you if you want to use it as a car kit, that needs so be within a couple of feet of the power outlet and also a couple of feet from your AUX-IN.

But when playing properly sourced audio, it does a better job than any of the kits I’ve tested before, which is probably due to the line-in as opposed to FM.
