Reports indicate Galaxy S8 beats iPhones in breakability

Broken GlassThe Galaxy S8 is being reported to be one of the more breakable phones (the most according to many sites,) suffering cracks on all sides in single-drop tests. More screen onto the sides = more area to shatter.

iPhone users will probably stand in line to tell you how the iPhone was the most breakable phone first and Samsung is once again copying Apple’s features.

So if you’re getting an S8 plan on getting some sort of protection for it because it’s a $200 hit to repair much more of the time when you drop the phone.

One category my HTC10 seems to shine in, I’ve lost track of the times it’s been dropped. The volume rocker is dented now and metal a bit scuffed in places it hasn’t skipped a beat.

Yeah, I have dropped my 10 sans-case multiple times. Got a little corner scar from landing on concrete but still chugging.

Actually, other than my HTC EVO 3D that’s the only one that the glass broke on and that was hitting the corner of a table with my full weight behind it so if it didn’t break that would have been astounding.

I did manage to break an evo lte by falling on it(and landing on a pedestal server) but it survived hell before and after that, same for the m8.

I can attest to it’s “durability.” Got mine April 20th and managed to chip and crack the screen at 2AM April 22. Not even 48hr. First Smartphone I have ever broken a screen on from a 2ft fall. I called Samsung who said even though the phone comes with a free month of Premium Care which would cover repair, the fact that the website was hammered and giving errors each time I tried to register and couldn’t, I would have to pay for repairs and JUST the SCREEN would be $250. Not including back glass, dented corner and anything under the hood that needed fixed. I told them that was not acceptable as I tried to register my device within hours of getting it. A couple “I need to speak to a supervisor/Manager” and about an hour later they agreed it wasn’t my fault, but they couldn’t swap it out for a new one…but would cover all repairs needed for $117 including the taxes. Considering a deductible of $99 would be required for a swap anyway I thought this was a good compromise.

They actually replaced way more than I thought had broken and there is no visible sign that it was ever cracked.

So, anyone that cracked there screen and didn’t get the Premium Care or opted-out after the free month, you might be able to haggle for a better repair price. Full turn around time was a little over a week.
