Netflix HDR & Dolby Vision now on 11 Android devices

If you’ve been disappointed at Netflix’s inability to utilize HD and HDR on your ridiculously expensive phone, prepare to be slightly less disappointed as the official list of HDR devices has reached ten, and Dolby Vision devices maintain a solid 1.

The current Android Dolby Vision list stands at

  • LG G6

For iOS they list the iPad Pro (2nd gen,) iPhone 8, 8 Plus, iPhone X.

Whereas the Netflix HDR support now lists

  • Huawei Mate 10 Pro
  • Huawei P20
  • LG V30
  • Razer Phone
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S3
  • Samsung Galaxy S9
  • Sony Xperia XZ Premium
  • Sony Xperia XZ1
  • Sony Xperia XZ2

For those unfamiliar with the terms, it means it’ll look slightly better even through Netflix’s pretty bad HD compression. Instead of squinting at Daredevil and Punisher you’ll be able to see a slightly better lit grainy piece of garbage in the background.

You’ll need a 25mbit connection, 4-screen Netflix plan, and a supported device in order to enjoy better lit graininess according to Netflix.

Should note, I’m not dissing HDR, I’ve just been extremely disappointed in the supposedly 4K shows on Netflix that appear to have at least 2K made up of noise.
