Infographic: charging standards and rates

You may have seen this infographic floating around produced by Hometop, but here it is on Pocketables now with some nitpicking before the infographic.

As this took me forever to decode, ignore the mAhs listed under the headers Capacity, Charging Time, and Charging Rate. These are the capacities of the phone batteries they’re testing against, not the charging capabilities of the spec. They’ll come into use later.

A result with mAh charged per minute also does not represent what that charger spec is capable of pushing, just what that particular phone they’re testing is capable of receiving. There’s also the omission of Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ spec so as such this should probably be considered a comparison of current top of the line smartphones and their abilities to charge a battery quickly.

Also one final thing – it should be noted that just because you can charge a phone in ten seconds doesn’t mean the battery is going to last as long as one charged over the course of an hour.

  • charging rate isn’t measured in mAh, is measured in mA.
    mAh is the charge capacity.

    • Everything about the info graphic reads slightly off, second paragraph of my intro addresses this somewhat – it’s not a charging rate (amperage,) they’re listing, it’s a mAh charged rate (how many mAh they stuffed into the battery on average per minute) and only a charged rate for the particular phone they’re listing – it would have been better if they listed an average mA charge rate, but they went quite around the block to get this one.

I had a very long letter written telling them what was wrong with the chart and then looked at everything and was like “oh, yeah, I see what you mathed there” – not the most straightforward chart but I smell what the Rock was cooking here.

The Rock wasn’t cooking particularly straightforward standard annotated stew.

      • They should have gone with average mA charge as opposed to their weird round the world way of getting there though, although even that the subject group is only the phones they tested and not the charging specs or the chargers.
