Koogeek S1 Smart Scale – review

Up until now, I had a great excuse to be on the heavy side of my BMI charts. The scale I had, had been made in 80’s and I could question its accuracy any time my weight would top what’s considered reasonable weight. Not anymore. I got a “smart” scale and I’m terrified! This will tell me all the information I don’t really want to know! Meet the Koogeek S1 Smart Scale.

Koogeek S1 Smart Scale

Koogeek S1 Smart Scale 1 of 3 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag hereSlick looks and a zen interface are the main characteristics of this device. The fact that the Koogeek S1 Smart Scale connects via Bluetooth and WiFi means, we will be getting all the detailed information from the screens of our phones and the Koogeek Health app.

There isn’t much button’s to interact with the scale. A reset at the back and a display where it should be. Apart from weight, the Koogeek S1 Smart Scale will show you the Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity icons, and the progress of analyzing your body composition.

The Koogeek S1 Smart Scale activates when you step on it, and transmits data first over the Bluetooth (the phone app has to be open) and if this fails, a WiFi entry is sent. A clever design to save some power.  After a couple of moments, your results are ready. The sensor and app can recognise up to 16 users and has “baby mode” so you can stand on it with your infant to monitor the weight.Koogeek S1 Smart Scale 3 of 3 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

Accuracy seems to be on point. Turned out my old scale was also accurate, it was me that did not appreciate the results. The readings were consistent too.

Koogeek S1 Smart Scale & Koogeek Health app

The app is well made and supports an array of the Koogeek Health products (Smart Massager which will be reviewed soon is one of them). This is where you can also monitor the progress of weight loss or in my case, mostly gain.

The Koogeek S1 Smart Scale is able to measure:

  • weight
  • BMI (Body Mass Index)
  • Body Fat
  • Lean Mass
  • Body Water
  • Bone Mass
  • Visceral Fat
  • BMR (your calory intake level)

That’s impressive, and depressive at the same time! I did not want to know I’m made of 30% fat. This is also a first scale to tell me that my BMI (obese 1) is not standard – rather than just call me fat. I have an elevated mass to hight ratio due to 20 years of cycling and legs to show for it!

It’s nice to see the integration with Google Fit, and therefore other systems. I’d like to see more apps being supported. Let’s face it, the primary customers of the Koogeek S1 Smart Scale will be either the fitness freaks or people who are trying to drop a few pounds.

One issue

Initially, I had an issue with the WiFi mode not posting to the app. After contacting the support, the fix has been made server wise and the Koogeek S1 Smart Scale is now posting the information to the account over WiFi. I had to reset the scale to make this work.

Conclusion

Disclaimer
The Koogeek S1 Smart Scale has been provided to me for the purpose of the review. As usual, with all my reviews I reserve the right to an honest critique of the product.

Other than the initial connectivity glitch, I have no complaints. The Koogeek S1 Smart Scale looks great, does what it suppose to (scare the living hell out of me each time I stand on it) and the app is fun to use. I know, it made me more conscious about my weight, which brings the additional motivation to my workouts. If you like me, constantly need a reminder why you do not suppose to eat cookies at 1 am – get the Koogeek S1 Smart Scale!
