Pocketables

Oh hey, Pocketables was down

One of the things I used to absolutely dread when the site was owned by that other company was when it would go down, I never knew if they were going to bring it back up again because according to them it was generally not worth their time/we were bottom of the list.

Last night Pocketables went down – it started with error 403 (Verboten) and ended with error 500 (Kaptuz) and basically for 25 minutes the site was somewhere in the realm of “great, not this shit again…”

Difference here is the host. While I kept getting told several hundred dollars were being spent on fixing the issues with Pocketables in the past, this little host we’re on now that costs under $16 a month for unlimited everything, they popped in, said “oh, looks like a caching issue on the back end, let’s run a virus/script scan as well just to make sure,” and I was back up about 20 minutes into the conversation.

This has been one of the scarier prospects of running the site myself, however the total downtime was in the less than an hour range with me being informed of it 25 minutes into the outage (I was in the shower when the notifications started coming in.)

Anyway, the reason I’m saying all of this is I need to shoot myself and the site in the foot metaphorically and praise the host for fixing the issue to see if we can cause the site to break during the daytime this time as although I am very happy they have 24 hour service, I’m not wanting to be up until midnight again tonight because I’m tired.

Also if you see anything whacky I’d appreciate dropping Paul at pocketables an email and letting me know. Also if you need hosting that you can get a site fixed in a few minutes, drop me a line.
