Potential executive order to bar Huawei, ZTE in the works

An eight month old plan for an executive order declaring a state of emergency and barring using products manufactured by Huawei or ZTE may be getting signed for 2019.

Begs the question of what’s different now than eight months ago? Oh yeah, trade war.

Whether signed or not, companies looking for 5G partners or replacing existing tech (lot of rural telcos,) are going to look at the news and look for more stable sources as literally there could be an executive order to cease use immediately, shutting down any rural operators using said equipment .

Huawei Mate 10 Pro
The Huawei Mate 10 – that’s how a phone should look… rawr!

What’s really weird here is even if it’s not signed, that it’s been signaled by multiple Reuters sources effectively scaring US companies away from the two Chinese manufacturers.

In August the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 was signed which included text barring the US Government fro using Huawei and ZTE equipment was signed. (Sec 889. Prohibition on certain telecommunications and video surveillance services or equipment. (f) (3) (A)

However no particular information as to why that happened either… *cough cough* tradewar *cough cough*

Huawei products are significantly cheaper for small cell operators than anything else, so should this be enacted, yikes.
